Mpho Matsipa is interested in alternative forms and formats for knowledge production, spatial research, and curatorial practice that are trans-disciplinary, relational, and multi-sited. With over ten years of international research and teaching experience in sub-Saharan Africa, North America, and Europe, her work explores southern urbanisms and the circulation of ideas, aesthetics, people, and spatial practices, deploying methods framed broadly as Africa-as-Method and Black Counter-Cartographies.
She is a former Fulbright scholar and has held appointments at WiSER and the University of the Witwatersrand, and has contributed to numerous significant curatorial projects including the Sharjah Architecture Triennale (2023) and the Venice Biennale. Since concluding a Loeb Fellowship (2022) at Harvard Graduate School of Design, she has taught at Harvard GSD, Columbia GSAPP, and SCI-Arc, and is working on a publication project titled "African Mobilities – a library of circulation".
