Profile

Mãe Márcia de Xangô is a socio-environmental activist, renowned cook, and community leader from Ribeirinha, committed to preserving Afro-Brazilian traditions and protecting the environment in the Amazon. She is also the priestess at the Ubamba temple Caboclo Rompe Mato. Mãe Márcia de Xangô fights for the valorization of riverside communities and the rights of indigenous communities, integrating spirituality and socio-environmental justice throughout her work.

As a Mãe de Santo from the island region of Belém, it's an honour to be part of "Art for Climate Justice". This event brings together ancestral and contemporary knowledge, showing the world that our fight for climate justice is also a fight for the preservation of our roots, culture and spirituality. Bringing together voices from various countries in one of the communities on Cotijuba Island will be an incentive to strengthen our resistance.
