Haig Aivazian is an artist working across a range of media and modes of address.

Profile

Haig delves into the ways in which power embeds, affects and moves people, objects, animals, landscape and architecture. He explores apparatuses of control and sovereignty in sports, museums, the office, music and anywhere else they may be at work. He is a PhD candidate in Leiden University, The Netherlands, and a Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture alumnus, he has received an MFA from Northwestern University, Evanston, US, and a BFA from Concordia University, Montréal, Canada. From 2020 to 2022, Aivazian was Artistic Director of Beirut Art Center where he was founding editor of thederivative.org, among several other projects he initiated. 

Recent solo and two-person exhibitions of his work include “All of Your Stars are but Dust on my Shoes,” The Showroom, London (2022); “All of the Lights,” the Renaissance Society, Chicago (2021); “The Setting of Noon,” Home Works 8, Ashkal Alwan, Beirut (2019). His work has been shown in group exhibitions at the Henie Onstad Triennial for Photography, Oslo (2023); the Berlin Biennial (2022); New Museum Triennial, New York (2021); Yokohama Triennial (2020); San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2019), among many others.
