Profile

DokuFest, International Documentary and Short Film Festival, is the largest film festival in Kosovo. Each year the festival fills the cinemas and improvised screening venues around the historic center of Prizren with a selection of more than 200 hand-picked films from around the world. In 2002, DokuFest was established with the vision of reinvigorating cinema and enriching the cultural landscape of Prizren. Over the years, it has evolved into the premier documentary and short film festival in Southeast Europe. Notably, since 2019, DokuFest has earned the esteemed status of being a BAFTA qualifying festival for short films, and in 2022, it was designated as a nominating festival for the prestigious European Film Academy.

More than just a film festival, DokuFest symbolizes resilience and cultural rejuvenation in a region once scarred by conflict. It's celebrated for fostering a vibrant cinematic culture, sparking societal conversations, and nurturing filmmaking talent. The organization's strategy encompasses two main components: the Festival itself and the DokuLab program. Each plays a unique yet complementary role in impacting the cinematic and cultural landscape.

DokuFest operates on the guiding principle that cinema transcends mere entertainment—it's a potent medium for societal reflection and reform. Our unwavering commitment to diversity and equality is manifested in its strategic emphasis on women's narratives, rights, and empowerment. DokuFest believes in the power of women's stories to shed light on underrepresented issues, challenge stereotypes, and catalyze change. Moreover, it recognizes that promoting gender equity isn't just about programming; it's about fostering a culture of inclusivity, right from its organizational structure to its audience outreach.

DokuFest has been a part of the Fund's network since 2017, when they became one of our Network Partners, as part of our past programmes.
