Fatima Matousse is an independent filmmaker based in Morocco. Fatima’s work tells socially engaged accounts that shed light on narratives that remain at the periphery of her society. She holds a master’s degree in Cultural Studies from Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah University in Fez, where her focus fell on the postcolonial history of marginalized women in Morocco portrayed in Moroccan documentary films. She also holds a Master of Arts degree in Documentary Film from the City College of New York, where her debut film, “Family in Exile,” won Best Cinematography at the graduation ceremony. The film has been selected for various renowned international festivals, such as Interfilm Berlin and Arab Film Festival in San Fransisco, in addition to winning awards in the US and Russia.
